Written by: Sean Hakes
EVP of Sales & Marketing

One of the biggest problems in SEO today, is the sales process, and setting realistic expectations with a prospective client.

Yesterday I was in a sales presentation with a business owner who has been through more Local SEO companies then he cared to count. He mentioned that one of his problems with the SEO industry was the lack of being realistic when it comes to results. I’ve seen it, I’ve heard it and it’s without a doubt one of the many factors that causes confusion in the world of online marketing.

The business owner went on to mention that he had heard just about every excuse in the book. In fact, he joked but with serious intentions about stores like Google changing up their algorithm at the last minute which is why a past SEO hadn’t reached their goal, another claimed that how a competitor ‘sabotaged’ their SEO campaign among many other excuses for a lack-of performance.

Though it’s not always easy, I try to push transparency with our group as well as realistic expectations and goals, yet some still don’t seem to grasp that some SEO campaigns due to their competitiveness, just take longer.

SEO is a very wise investment but in most cases, it’s not the fastest way to generate ROI, but when it does, you’re in the money.

If your small business is looking for an instant ROI then there’s a good chance that SEO might not be right for you. If you’re financially stable and are building out long-term growth, SEO will without a doubt help you reach, and exceed your goals, when done correctly.

How long does an average SEO campaign take to really kick-in’?

There are exceptions but within a competitive industry you can count on a good 6 – 12 months before seeing sizable results. With less competitive markets such as grout cleaning etc…, you can expect to see a return within 3-6 mo., and in some cases, even sooner but don’t count on it.

If you’re a bit confused or would like some friendly free advice about the facts, I invite you to give me a call at 720-545-1555. I’d love to provide you with a free SEO analysis and audit of your website.

The bottom line is this: SEO is not a secrete. In fact, most of the factors that make a difference are public information and common ‘best practices’ for a websites design as well as a quality linking strategy. A good SEO will tell you that SEO is about formulating and understanding quality factors that search engines like – and that’s what we do best.

Running a business today involves passwords that could take up pages and pages of spreadsheets. With each new password your business could become more vulnerable to a hacker. Developing passwords and keeping them private within your company is extremely important for the security of your local SEO marketing campaign.

There are so many cyber criminals in the growing Internet world so it is important to keep this in mind when you are deciding on how you will tackle your businesses marketing strategy. Here are a few hints to keep your passwords and business protected from these cyber criminals. First and most basic, use an individual password. Also, make sure this password is strong. It probably is not wise for your password to be a highly publicized catch phrase or the birth date of the face of the company. Instead think of a password that in unique and yet important so that you can recall it, but someone on the outside of your company would have an extremely hard time determining what it might be. Memorizing your passwords is also important although very hard. There are usually a ton of passwords for different sites and often they can get confused rather easily. It is also important to use different passwords, this is essential for especially important sites. You in no way want a criminal to gain access to your secret video marketing campaign or employee tax files. There are programs where if something is extremely important you can add extra security. This could be anything from a phone number or a pin code in addition to the usual user name and password. Lastly, make sure your computers have up to date anti-virus programs and are scanned frequently. That way if a criminal tries to break into your computer you can quickly block them from your files.

We can’t get around using passwords or saving them in spreadsheets, but being smart about the ones we choose and trying to keep them as secret as possible can greatly help your business to avoid problems and having ideas stolen.

Have you heard of Google’s Non-profit program? The non-profit program that Google has recently implanted is a great way for any business to help a great cause while also increasing their visibility online. Joining Google Non-profit is a relatively simple process with the help of a great local SEO company. Your company does have to apply and be approved by Google before you will receive up $10,000 in grants to be used for ad placement.

There are some large and amazing companies that have already taken advantage of this program, including American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, etc. While it is great to take advantage of this program and its ads online, you can also take advantage of the use of mobile phones. Pretty much everyone today has a mobile phone, and most of those people have a smart phone in which they can easily search the Internet or download an app. There are several large companies that are taking advantage of the fact that we are all attached to our cell phones. There are a few hints provided by the Google Non-profit program that will help you get started.

First, you need to develop a mobile specific campaign. That means either developing an app or a text program that can be delivered to site visitors and encourage them to donate to your cause. Google also encourages the use of sites such as Ad Sitelinks. This site specializes in demonstrating how certain links will encourage people to donate. They include certain words like “Donate here” for example. Another site to take advantage of is Google Analytics in which you can see how many mobile hits you are getting to your site. This will help you determine how many people are actually visiting your site from their mobile phone.

A Denver marketing company can contribute a lot of great knowledge to developing a mobile phone and video marketing campaign for your non-profit business.

When starting your own business, almost everyone dreams of having their product or services go international. Once this happens though, it can actually be very difficult for your company to relate to the everyday man. Here are a few clues and hints if you are running an international business to make it relate to locals. Using a local SEO business can also greatly help you with this.

First, it is very important to make sure you have websites that are specific to certain locations. You wouldn’t want someone in France looking at an American website. Or someone in Australia looking at a Spanish website. Not only should the languages be different but if you have offices or stores in those areas they should be optimized to the specific website for that area. That way, when someone anywhere in the world searches for your business they will be pleasantly confronted to with site and location closest to them.

This also means that if your website needs to have the language changed or adjustments to make sure it is properly aligned with the country or city it is in you should do it as quickly as possible. Even though a translator can change all of the words on your webpage, it is important to make sure the theme, colors, and details are localized as well. That can mean a flag or a slogan connecting your site to that city. Finally, if you are using an SEO company make sure you are using and developing keywords and phrases that are in the other language. It makes no sense to use American keywords for a French website. This is important also if you are doing any video marketing. Make sure your video is in the language of your website.

All in all these hints seem rather obvious and they are but you’d be surprised how many people forget about them and lose business when going international.

We have all heard of YouTube, a site in which tons of videos are posted everyday that millions of people then are able to watch. These videos can be posted by anyone who takes the time to sign up for a YouTube account and they usually range from News casts, funny family videos, commercials, and even non-profit donation videos. But there is a new video website coming into the SEO world. Local SEO companies are going to have to start noticing the new site called TubeMogul, which was at one time called OneLoad.

This new site is focusing on advertising and specifically on video marketing which is becoming a very important part of building link development and site relevancy for Google searches. TubeMogul and OneLoad have recently separated into two different sites. This has been quite confusing to several people who have memberships to both sites. But OneLoad and TubeMogul are different in some ways but really not all that different. OneLoad will allow someone who has signed up to be a member to upload their video to the site and then it will be syndicated in several different places. This means that it will be seen by several millions of people. TubeMogul will from now on not allow videos to be uploaded to the site and then transferred to several different platforms. Instead, it will be focusing on “real-time media buying.”

TubeMogul is still maintain ownership of OneLoad, and if you already have a log in for TubeMogul it can be used on OneLoad’s site as well. It may seem odd to have two sites doing different tasks but for now, there are no signs of TubeMogul selling OneLoad. In an industry that is booming with video advertising it is probably a good idea to consider loading some advertising videos on the site for your company’s visibility.

When a business gets a bad review from a client either for a service or product they have provided, it could a punch to the gut to that business’ profits. Although, not all bad reviews are real and sometimes this is used as a dirty strategy by the competitions, they could really affect the over all online presence of that business and most important of all their reputation. Even video marketing can be a negative form of reviews. One of my clients recently encountered this problem when a bad review for his company showed up on his Google places accounts. To protect their privacy and for obvious reasons, I cannot disclose the name of the business and what was said about them, but we will just say that this particular review did not speak well at all about his company and the over all experience with. Our client did not know if the review was real or not, but regardless, it was affecting exposure, phone calls and even the amount of traffic on the website. So what do you do on a situation like this, where you cannot control bad reviews (real or not) and they affect your over all Internet presence? Many clients have found an answer to this question by reaching out to a reputation management company. This type of tool will not get rid of bad reviews for you, so do not look at it as a “get out of jail free card” But it will manage they way these reviews affect your rankings and presence. It is understandable that most companies make honest mistakes and sometimes stuff happens. But the truth is that anybody can write a review about your business, at anytime and post it anywhere. How prepared your are to reply to these reviews it is what is going to make a difference and you would be surprised how much a local SEO company could help you with this.

As time goes by and we see new technologies surface, many things are changing rather quickly. And as we see new advances and algorithm changes, Search Engine Optimizations has to adapt and keep up in order to be successful. The reality is, a strategy could that is successful today could not be the best one tomorrow and that means that as Google and the rest of the search engines change we have to change with them. Now days we need more than a crawl able website, with updates like Caffeine and Google Panda, Google shows that is mostly concerned with content and relevancy issues and they are driving Search Engine optimization companies to focus on quality content, social media signals and technology. Specifically social media or video marketing, which represents a big part of Google’s new approach at personalized searches. And even though so far there has not been a good response for personalized search from users, this is something we have to keep an eye on, because just like anything else, it could evolve and become the next “IT” for social networking. Search Engine optimization has become way more than just keywords and “link stuffing” There a number of different tools like data sources, keyword and link tools, social Search Engine Optimization tools and CRM/business and SEO tools that have to be used in order to keep up with today’s Search Engine Optimization demands. Especially with Google updating as much as they do, it is imperative that we understand these search engines and what they are looking for. The bottom line is, this industry is changing and only those who keep up with these changes will survive. Local SEO could bring you great success, as long as the company you hire knows how to jump through those hoops.

If your company has enlisted the help of a local SEO company to help with your marketing campaign it is a good idea to know what you are getting into before jumping into the world of video marketing which can be quite difficult to understand if you are not previously knowledgeable.

It is a good idea to start off by looking at the video or videos you want to post and picking them apart. Checking for things like a mispronunciation, misspelling, or even offensive material is extremely important before posting a video that represents your company. You can enlist friends, employees, and family to watch the video as well to ensure that the video is understood and accepted by a wide range of people. People are your best tool in ensuring that the public will mostly accept the video. People will all have different opinions but by allowing a relatively large group to view the video and give their opinion it can decrease any negativity that may come about.

It is important to recognize what people want to see as well. YouTube is one of the largest and fastest growing Internet companies in the world right now. There are millions of videos on this site right now, so what is going to set your video apart from the rest of them so that people will want to watch it? Here are a few hints. Talent. There are millions of people will millions of different talents in the world today. Artists, photographers, drivers, dancers, actors, engineers, etc. By using a talented person to develop you video whether they draw something or dance if the talent is there many people will want to tune in for it. Making sure your brand for your company is in its top design shape is also a huge importance so that people will easily see and understand you company.

Video marketing can be a great step in putting your company out further in the world for more people to see. Using a great SEO company can help you achieve a great video.
